We have programs and services supporting a range of issues faced by young people. All our youth services are free and confidential. Your information is protected by privacy laws.

Our youth clinic

We have a Youth Health Clinic at our Bendigo site – 165-171 Hargreaves Street.

The clinic can support you with services for sexual health, general health, mental health, alcohol and other drugs, and counselling.

Your free appointment with our Youth Health Clinic nurse or general practitioner will be held in a confidential environment and is covered by privacy laws. No referral is needed.

Headspace Bendigo

headspace Bendigo is a free youth service that caters to the mental health, physical health, alcohol/drug support and vocational needs of young people aged between 12 to 25 years.

This is a confidential service protected by privacy laws and delivered by general practitioners, mental health nurses, nurses, social workers, occupational therapists and pychologists.

Headspace Bendigo focuses on all youth issues with a special focus on:

  • anxiety
  • problems at school, home or with peers
  • depression
  • sexual health
  • bullying
  • physical health
  • general mental health

Headspace Bendigo offers support and information for parents and the carers of young people. You do not need a referral to attend headspace Bendigo.

I had unprotected sex and I’m worried I could have an STI?

Sexual health plays a big part in your overall health. Things can go wrong, we get it. So instead of waiting until things get worse, get checked now. Our service is free and confidential.

Our sexual health clinic tests for all blood borne viruses and sexually transmittable infections. We want you to be well and healthy, so please don’t be shy.

If you feel there are challenges in your life that you are struggling to deal with it’s important to know you are not alone. Many people feel this way when faced with difficult situations or life pressures.

I am a carer and sometimes life just gets tough

Our Carer Wellbeing Program is designed to support individuals or families caring for a person with a mental illness and to promote an awareness and understanding of mental health in the community.

A range of support programs are available to ensure effective support for families and can be accessed by phoning any of our sites to arrange a meeting with the carers program community health nurse.

How do you help people from the LGBTIQ+ community?

Headspace Bendigo has a dedicated same sex attracted, sex and gender diverse support worker.

The Health Equal Youth (HEY) Project worker engages at an individual, group and community level to improve the mental health and wellbeing of young same sex attracted, sex and gender diverse (SSASGD) people in the region.

headspace Bendigo and the HEY Project achieve these aims by providing a safe space for young people to meet, socialise and gain peer support on a weekly basis, and by delivering education and health promotion to organisations, including schools and health services, to raise awareness of the impacts of discrimination and isolation on young SSASGD people.

What advice can you give me as a young person?

It is not uncommon for young people to feel confused, frustrated, stressed, anxious or down but it’s just not talked about that much – it’s important to know that feeling better is possible and that there are people, like our counsellors, that are ready and accessible to help you.

I need to talk to someone

I’m not coping with being gay or lesbian, my family doesn’t understand and I need help. We can help talk it through and come up with strategies to help you with the situation. Sometimes all you need is an objective ear to listen and guide you.

Our Men’s Health Clinic helps men to better understand and manage their own health needs. Some of the services provided are annual check-ups, health assessments, information and support.

We offer a full bulk-billed medical practice for all your GP needs at our Bendigo, Eaglehawk and Kangaroo Flat sites. Whether it’s related to being LGTBIQ or just general medical issues, we have GPs on staff that can help. What services are available?

Our Women’s Health Clinic is staffed by a female general practitioner and nurses. The clinic specialises in the health and wellbeing of women, with a focus on:

  • understanding puberty
  • Sexual diversity and transgender health care
  • common issues with periods
  • contraception options including long-acting reversible contraception such as IUD or Implant insertion and removal.
  • fertility information
  • pregnancy tests
  • early pregnancy care and referral to maternity hospitals
  • unplanned pregnancy counselling and support
  • Medical termination.
  • Referral to services for surgical termination.
  • sexually transmissible infection risk assessment, testing and treatment
  • endometriosis and management planning
  • cervical cancer screening – pap tests
  • breast health and breast checks
  • bowel cancer screening
  • emotional and physical issues of menopause; assessment and testing and support

Do I need a referral and what will an appointment cost?

You do not need a referral to attend our Women’s Health Clinic.

There is no charge for an appointment at our Sexual Health Clinic. Some procedures may have a minimal cost but please speak t our staff if this is a concern for you.

What ages do you provide services for?

Women of any age from any walk of life are welcome at our Women's Health Clinic. It's about providing more access to care for all.

Youth specific services for women aged 12-25 are offered by our youth clinic in the Bendigo Central site at 165-171 Hargreaves Street and from headspace Bendigo at 78-80 Pall Mall.

Do you offer sexual health services at the clinic?

Our doctor and experienced sexual health nurses offer information, advice and management on all areas of sexual and reproductive health including contraception, sexually transmissable infections, blood borne virus, pregnancy testing and unplanned pregnancy support. 

Our experienced nurses and doctors support women to access a medical termination at our clinic and refer women to services for surgical termination.

Will my appointment be confidential?

Your appointment is carried out in a confidential environment and is protected by privacy laws.

Do you provide access to free sanitary products?

The Women's Health Clinic has a sanitary product vending machine with the support of Share The Dignity. The machine issues a #Pinkbox period pack containing six tampons and two pads. There's no limit on the packs you can take but the machine will only dispense one pack every 10 minutes. Find a #Pinkbox machine at our Central Bendigo site at 165-171 Hargreaves Street or our Eaglehawk site at 3 Seymoure Street.

My period is irregular. Is this normal for women?

Periods should never interfere with or control your life. Please come in and talk to our GP or nurses if you have any questions or concerns about your period cycle. 

Can I get contraceptive advice?

Our Sexual Health Clinic staff can talk to you about different forms of contraception available, how each works and which one is best for you. We can provide emergency contraception.

Can you help me with an abortion?

Our Women's Health Clinic provides a medical termination service. Our GPs and nurses are available to discuss the options available and provide care and support to you. We can also provide a referral to surgical termination services. 

Can you help me with endometriosis?

Our Women's Health Clinic and Sexual Health Clinic are staffed by GPs and nurses with training and experience in endometriosis.

Make an appointment if you would like to talk to our staff about endometriosis and what you can do to manage the pain that comes with the condition such as the long-acting reversible contraceptive and the pill.

Our clinic believes strongly in continuity of care in regards to treating endometriosis and can provide a 'holistic service' with mental health and other supports available to help with management of the condition if needed.

What if I don’t want to go to a Women’s Health Clinic?

We have general practitioners to cater for all your health needs at our medical practices at the Bendigo, Eaglehawk and Kangaroo Flat sites.

We provide psychological support for individuals, partners or families affected by alcohol and other drug use through our specialised and generalist counselling programs at Kangaroo Flat, Eaglehawk and Bendigo sites.

Drugs have become an issue for me and my family

We know illicit or prescription drug addiction can be a harrowing experience.

Our Diabetes Educators can help you to adapt to a life with diabetes, support you to set goals for self-managing your diabetes, and educate you on the diabetes process.

I need someone to help me with respiratory management. Is that you?

Being diagnosed with a chronic condition such as asthma can be a frightening experience. For some it may be not having enough information about the disease and its treatment or not knowing where to go for help.

Our respiratory management program provides people with a range of information and support, with the nursing team who have had additional training in respiratory management.

Can you treat asthma?

Our Respiratory management program can help you with any problems or issues associated with breathing and lung health. The program is staffed by our community health nurses who have specialised training in asthma management, lung health, and Quit smoking.

Our staff will provide you with information and support to help you to manage your disease at the ideal level and support you to achieve your goals.

Information for health professionals/welfare agencies and hospitals

We accept referrals from community services such as hospitals, private psychology and counselling practices. No referral is required for your client. Our services can sometimes have a small waiting period for an appointment. Please call us on 5406 1200 to confirm. All appointments are bulk billed.

Community Soup Kitchen

The soup kitchen is presently not operating due to COVID-19 precautions

Our Community Soup Kitchen operates from the arcade at 165-171 Hargreaves Street in Bendigo every Thursday from 4pm to 5pm. Enjoy a free bowl of hot soup in winter or refreshing chicken and salad in the warmer months.

Active Living Program

Our Active Living Program is designed to work with you to stay healthy, keep active and living independently. 

Our exercise physiologists will work with you through our exercise physiology program, Falls and Balance Group or Diabetes Group Exercise Sessions.
