They’re walking the talk in Eaglehawk

Eaglehawk Exp;orers with Christine crop

You can hear the Eaglehawk Explorers before you see them. At least that was the case this week when seeking out the walking group for a quick catch up and a photo.

After following the glorious, melodic sound of laughter and chatter, there they were, looping beautiful Lake Neangar before the heat of the day.

The seven members present didn’t mind briefly stopping in the shade to explain what motivated them to join and commit to the BCHS Health Promotion weekly community walk.

Here’s a smattering of the answers:

“Exercise, meet new friends.”

“Can you say gossip without saying gossip?”

“Most of us walk Monday and Wednesdays. It’s the social interaction. Yes, that’s important.”

“I look forward to it.”

“It’s the highlight of the week.”

“Join us! We’re wonderful people. Elizabeth’s our newest one.”

Four weeks in and Elizabeth reports; “I feel like I’ve been here forever. In fact, I’m already beginning not to like people… (wink wink)” cue more laughter.

“We all do different lengths,” says another. “We just drop off when we want to. Some people do one lap. Brian and I do six, it just depends.”

“You don’t get up the next morning aching.”

“It’s especially good to get out and talk to people because most of us live on our own.”

“If you can talk and walk and you’re not getting puffed you know you’re going at a good rate. If you can’t talk and walk, then you’re in trouble.”

We’re happy to report there are no troubles here!

Would you like to join this happy, healthy band of walkers? The Eaglehawk Explorers meet Wednesdays at 9.30am at the exercise equipment by the lake, off Simpsons Road.
