Medical Practices
Bendigo Community Health Services features a wonderful team of trusted, caring and experienced general practitioners operating from our Bendigo Central, Mitchell Street and Kangaroo Flat sites.
If you are facing an emergency, call 000 immediately.
Our GPs can help you with all your general medical issues.
Your confidentiality will be respected and is covered by privacy laws.
Appointments
We have an appointment system for the medical practice but do keep some appointment times open for emergencies. Anyone who walks into a practice without an appointment will be triaged and provided an appointment with the nursing staff. However, this can result in long waits, we strongly recommend you make an appointment if possible. Everyone who has a GP appointment will be reminded the day before by SMS or phone.

Contacting GPs
GPs in our medical practice may be contacted during normal surgery hours. The reception staff will give the GP a message of your request and then inform you of the outcome.
Accessing Test Results
A review appointment is generally made for results of all tests, unless advised otherwise by the doctor that the patient will be phoned. A reminder system is in place to provide recalls for certain tests such as Victorian Cytology (pap smears and immunisations).
Appointment Times
Please report to reception desk upon your arrival at the medical practice. Despite our best intentions, we sometimes run late with appointments. This happens due to medical emergencies or patients requiring extra time during a consultation. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
If you have a complex condition or several issues to discuss with the GP, please notify our reception staff when making an appointment. Please book a long consultation to allow for things such as paperwork.
Fees
Bulk billing services apply to consultations in our medical practice. Please refer to Bendigo Community Health Services’ fees structure [insert link to fees page].
If you are referred to another doctor such as a specialist, you should ask that doctor about fees and other costs that may arise.
Repeat Prescriptions
Please book an appointment to see your GP for a repeat prescription. Our medical practice recommends you allow yourself plenty of time to get a repeat prescription before your supply of medication runs out. Urgent scripts requested without an appointment to see a GP may incur a fee. Please discuss with Client Services staff at reception if you have further questions.
Important: There is a $15 fee for all scripts ordered over the phone. This includes orders from pharmacies. Our medical practice recommends all patients see a GP as part of a clinical review process before a new script is issued. Any script issued as part of a normal bulk billed appointment with your GP will not incur a fee.
Home Visits
Home visits are available for regular patients whose condition prevents them from attending the practice. This will be at the discretion of our GP. If your problem is an emergency, inform the receptionist immediately.
Please note: Our GPs can provide a telehealth consult if they are unable to visit your home.
Doctors in Secondary Schools
We host one of the biggest Doctors in Secondary Schools programs in Victoria. Our doctors head out to run bulk billed (free) clinics in schools on a weekly basis. You must be a student at the participating school to use the program. Doctors in Secondary Schools Program visits:
- Wedderburn College
- Crusoe College
- Eaglehawk Secondary College
- Weeroona College Bendigo
- St Arnaud Secondary College.
Make an appointment directly via the nurse on your school’s clinic day, or through your teacher/school.
Medical Students
Our medical clinics are teaching practices, so we routinely have nursing, allied health and medical students present.
Sharing Information on Diseases
Our medical practices submit patient data to various disease specific registers (cervical, breast, bowel screening etc) to assist with preventative health management.
Consent is required from the patient on an ‘opt in’ or ‘opt out’ basis.
Practice Features
Our surgery waiting rooms and consulting rooms have wheelchair and motor scooter access.
Televisions are used for both the entertainment of consumers in waiting area and services information.
Disabled Access
Bendigo Central: Via ramp at side door entrance.
Kangaroo Flat: Via ramp at front entrance.
Mitchell Street: Via the front entrance.
Patient Reminders
The practices remind patients by letter or phone of important tests, reviews or immunisations which may be due. Please advise your doctor if you do not wish to receive these reminders.
