New AOD trainees ready for their next chapter

AOD trainees

The BCHS Alcohol and Other Drugs service recently welcomed new trainees Martin, Aysha, Brohgan and Jacob to the team.

The four new recruits answered the call to change careers, and in turn, bolster the AOD workforce in central Victoria.

With backgrounds in factory work, administration, retail and security, each has embarked on a journey of discovery via a new role at BCHS.

They will spend the next 12 months undertaking a formal qualification in Alcohol and Other Drugs while gaining hands-on experience in a supportive environment, rotating across our many AOD services. These include residential withdrawal, the needle and syringe program, pharmacotherapy, counselling and family drug support.

“These traineeships are a valuable and exciting pathway into a career in AOD services,” said Senior Leader AOD Wellbeing Services Lisa Walklate.

“In turn, we are investing in the future AOD workforce in our region, helping meet demand and foster regional people to care for community.”

Lisa said the traineeships offer our four new recruits the chance to make a real difference within the community.

“They will get hands-on experience working alongside experienced professionals, and the opportunity to work with a supportive, values-driven organisation at BCHS,” she said.

“We welcomed applications from diverse backgrounds – no prior AOD experience was required – we were looking for people with enthusiasm, empathy, and the desire to learn. We’re thrilled that Martin, Aysha, Brohgan and Jacob have joined us.”
