Bendigo Community Health Services has thrown its support behind the redevelopment of the historic RSL Soldiers Memorial Institute military museum in Pall Mall.
BCHS is auspicing the deductible gift recipient status for a community appeal being run by the Bendigo District RSL with support from the Bendigo and Adelaide Bank Community Enterprise Foundation.
Federal, state and local governments have funded most of the $4.5 million project with the Bendigo District RSL contributing $250,000. The remaining $250,000 must be raised through business and community support.
The project includes:
- Conservation of the historic building.
- Construction of a new climate-controlled exhibition gallery with storage areas.
- Total roof replacement.
- External render and interior wall repairs for a return to original stone-coloured appearance.
- Restumping and new flooring.
- Ceiling and plaster repairs with painting.
“We recognise the great historical significance of the Soldiers Memorial Institute to Bendigo so when the RSL approached us to help with the appeal to restore the building we were keen to take part,” BCHS CEO Kim Sykes said.
“Bendigo has the largest regionally-based memorial military museum, an important recognition of all those from the community who have served in conflicts since World War 1.
“We hope the community ensures the future of this memorial by supporting the restoration appeal.”
All donations over $2 a tax deductible.
