Bendigo Community Health Services will use a $7.3 million State Government grant to secure the future of healthcare in Eaglehawk.

Member for Bendigo West Maree Edwards announced the State Government grant today as part of a $16.4 million Regional Health Infrastructure Fund investment in the region.

BCHS CEO Gerard José said the grant would secure the future of the Seymoure Street site for decades.

"We are thrilled. This grant will allow us to create a more modern health facility that caters for our staff and the Eaglehawk community," he said.

"BCHS has been caring for the Eaglehawk community from our very foundation in 1974 and it's exciting we can now reward their incredible support through the years by delivering a far better health centre to cater for their needs."

Mr José said BCHS would now start the process of consulting with staff, partners and the community on redevelopment plans.

"A redeveloped Eaglehawk site will not only allow us to keep delivering quality medical practice, allied health and counselling services but give us the space to expand into new models of healthcare for the community," Mr José said.

“The environment will also be a focus as we understand this is becoming an important element of healthcare delivery. We are already seeing the benefits of the bank of solar panels installed on the Eaglehawk site this year.”

Mr José said BCHS was thrilled to see Bendigo and District Aboriginal Co-operative get $7.3 million for a new medical facility in North Bendigo.

“BDAC is an amazing organisation and a key partner. We are pleased that they have been supported to improve healthcare services for the community and it’s exciting this new facility will provide the space to do even more,” he said.

“With BDAC’s new facility in North Bendigo and ours in Eaglehawk we can feel confident about making a real difference in areas of need in the future.”

BCHS Board of Directors Chair Vicki Pearce thanked the State Government and local MPs Maree Edwards and Jacinta Allan for supporting a BCHS vision for better health services in Eaglehawk.

“Our Eaglehawk site has served us well for many years but it’s clear the time has arrived to redevelop the centre for the comfort of staff and consumers and to give us space to grow the services we offer to community,” Ms Pearce said.

“This would not be possible without the Regional Health Infrastructure Fund grant and we thank the State Government for investing in the future of healthcare in Eaglehawk and Bendigo.”
