Dr Anant joined the Bendigo and Long Gully Community Health Centre in 1975.

The health centre was operating out of a temporary structure in Bright Street, Eaglehawk.

"We were only four medical practitioners at this time along with Russ Hansen as manager and Sister Denise Main," Dr Ananat remembers.

"We were like a large family - very close knit.

"We then moved to the present building the following year."

Dr Anant has fond memories of helping the Eaglehawk and Long Gully communities from the medical practice, particularly the most vulnerable.

"We thought we can contribute to the medical welfare of the community and we very much enjoyed our work there," Dr Anant said.

"Russ Hansen, David Kennedy and Sister Main need a special mention for their contribution."

Dr Anant moved to India in 1980 and continued his career doing community and social work in medical practices.

"We are now living in a retirement community in Coimbatore in Southern India," Dr Anant said.
