Isabel Nichol-Smith has won the Bendigo Community Health Services Award at La Trobe University in 2017.

The Bachelor of Public Health Promotion student adds her name to an honour roll for the award which recognises academic excellence and spans more than a decade.

Isabel said she was proud to win the award.

“I put a lot of effort into my final year. I think the award showed that I had put a lot of effort into placement and showed that I could actually do the work,” Isabel said.

“I really like to help population health and hope that what I do actually makes a difference.”

Isabel is now working part-time as the walk to school officer with the City of Greater Bendigo.

Her work included promoting the Vichealth Walking To School program by encouraging primary schools to sign up for Walk To School Day and then supporting them to take part in the October event.

Isabel hopes to focus on nutrition, oral health and fitness in her career.

La Trobe University thanked BCHS for the philanthropic support with the Bendigo Community Health Services Award at the annual Bendigo Prize Ceremony.

Thank you La Trobe and well done Isabel!
