A directory of services for refugees in Bendigo has been updated with new information.

The directory was produced by the Rural Australians for Refugees Bendigo with support from Bendigo Community Health Services and Young People for Refugees.

Organisations, groups and individuals that support or provide services for refugees in Bendigo are included in the directory.

Our team manager cultural diversity and relationships Kaye Graves and members of our Settlement Services team attended a forum to launch the directory and celebrate the contribution of refugees to the Bendigo community.

"This was an exciting networking opportunity so that service providers and volunteers working with those of refugee background and those seeking asylum could learn and share the latest and most up-to-date information about the many services, programs and organisations available," Kaye said.

Bendigo Mayor Margaret O'Rourke launched the first edition of the directory in May 2017.

The evening also featured unique local cultural entertainment, delicious food prepared by local refugee communities, a first-hand insight into the refugee settlement experience in Bendigo from Bendigo Community Health Services settlement clients and an illustration of the way refugees can become an asset to their communities and Australia with Abeselom Nega presenting his lived experience.
