Bendigo Community Health Services now features one of Australia’s first endometriosis and pelvic pain clinics.

Thanks to dedicated Federal Government funding, BCHS has established a specialist team of health professionals to provide early access to care and treatment for those with endometriosis symptoms.

The condition affects at least one in nine Australian women and can have significant impacts on their lives.

Dr Karishma Kaur said BCHS recognises endometriosis and pelvic pain can be debilitating and complex.

“We are fierce advocates for equitable healthcare for regional and rural people, so were delighted to be funded to provide an endometriosis and pelvic pain clinic to our community,” she said.

“After months of planning and establishing our team, we are now ready to accept patients to the clinic, via referral from their GP.”

Dr Kaur said the clinic would focus on early intervention care and treatment.

“Evidence suggests that it can take up to seven to ten years for people to be diagnosed with endometriosis and we want to work as a team to minimise this time frame and provide services to improve quality of life for people living with pain and discomfort.

“We are dedicated to offering personalised treatment plans, expert guidance, and compassionate support to help our patients manage their condition effectively,” she said.

Patients will complete a cycle of care with the clinic, during which time they will see a range of medical and allied health professionals, such as a GP, nurse, physiotherapist and psychologist.

“We will be providing comprehensive information about endometriosis, treatment options, and self-care strategies,” Dr Kaur said.

“Additionally, we will offer emotional support and guidance to help navigate the challenges associated with endometriosis and pelvic pain.”

“Right across BCHS, we take a person-centred approach – partnering with our clients to ensure they are an active participant when it comes to planning their healthcare needs.

“We focus on the person and their strengths, factoring in their life experience and understanding they are the expert in their own lives, which are principles that will underpin our new clinic.”

Acceptance into the clinic is via referral from a GP. Speak to your doctor about accessing the service, or for more information see the clinic webpage.
