Support Services
These programs are designed to offer a range of supports to meet the needs of clients who have been experiencing problems relating to substance use.
Counselling Consultancy and Continuing Care
Counselling services offer support to individuals, groups and significant others to help in reduction or abstinence of substances.
This may be done through individual counselling sessions or group work and also by providing information and community education sessions.
Housing Support
We are able to offer housing and support for a number of people who are involved in treatment with other A&D services. The housing workers provide ongoing support and assistance throughout the tenancy as well as helping clients to apply for longer term housing.
Post Withdrawal Linkage
The post withdrawal worker will support a client in the weeks after they have completed a withdrawal, whether that is from Nova House or any of the other withdrawal units across the state for clients who reside in the local area.
The worker will support the client with day to day issues as well as supporting them to use other services they may require.
Pharmacotherapy Outreach
While receiving pharmacotherapy treatment the worker will support the clients with any problems that may arise regarding access to prescribing general practitioners and dispensing pharmacies. The worker may also support clients in working out how to solve any issues that arise with the aim of ensuring the client’s treatment is not interrupted.
The worker will support the client with day to day issues as well as supporting them to use other services they may require.
Relapse Prevention and Other Group Programs
The relapse prevention program is designed to help people maintain reduction or abstinence from alcohol and other drugs. The modular program is designed to meet specific group needs; however all groups have a primary focus on planning around cravings, high risk situations and coping strategies.
The groups take a health promoting approach and aim to build client self awareness. The groups aim for clients to consider their substance use within a whole of life and lifestyle context and generally build their understanding
of the consequences and health and social impacts of ongoing substance use.
