What are the benefits of Workplace Health Promotion?

Evidence:

European Network for Workplace Health Promotion, November 2004 has evaluated studies which demonstrate health related and economic benefit from workplace health promotion.

Decrease in absenteeism of between 12-36% among participants in Workplace Health Promotion programs.

In the United States every $ invested in workplace health promotion brought a return on investment (ROI) of between $US2.50 & $US4.80 due to reduced absenteeism costs.

In Finland for every 1€ invested in workplace health promotion there was a ROI of between €4 & €6 in increased productivity.

Glaxo Wellcome’s health promotion program saved $1 million in 1 year and cut absence due to medical reasons by 20,000 working days 1996-2003.

Smokers in QUIT programs – for every smoker that quits there is a 10% to 15%  increase in productivity and health gains.

Weight management – 26% participants maintained weight control 12 months after the program.

Employees who consider their workplace to be healthy not only have a lower rate of absenteeism but show a significantly higher level of job satisfaction and work morale and are less likely to change their job.

To summarise there are:

Reduced costs associated with:                and            Increase in:
