Elmore Primary Health Services - a site of Bendigo Community Health Services
Capital Refurbishment and Redevelopment Project
With the aim of improving access to services at the Elmore Primary Health Service and to support its sustainability for the Elmore and district community, BCHS with the City of Greater Bendigo as sponsor, lodged a submission to the Commonwealth (Dept of Health and Ageing) under the National Rural & Remote Health Infrastructure Program in October 2008.
The project objectives are to increase allied health service delivery on site, inclusive of podiatry, dietetics and diabetes nurse education services while also increasing opportunities for integrated team based approaches to primary health service delivery.
In January 2009 the Commonwealth advised BCHS of it successful submission to undertake the project and awarded a significant amount of funding for the project.
CBA Building Designers completed working plans for the development while a selective tender process was undertaken involving two Elmore builders and two
Bendigo builders. Walsh and O’Meara builders
Bendigo were awarded the contract of demolishing and rebuilding a purpose built Allied Services Centre.
Planning, Demolition and Building approval was granted and was soon followed by the ceremonial turning of the sod completed by Federal Member for Bendigo Steve Gibbons and BCHS Board of Directors Chair Mr Leigh Watkins in October 2009.
Demolition of the old nurses quarters followed and was completed in October 2009. The building project completion is estimated for late February 2010 with refurbishment of the existing main building to be completed late May 2010.
